I came to a sudden realization today: I have to start learning tune names. One of my goals these next few months is to increase the number of tunes I can remember how to start while playing at a session or on my own at home. And playing this afternoon with Becca and Russ (and the guitar player whose name escapse me at this poing), I have realized that all the tunes I feel really comfortable playing are those which I can remember their names.
So the grand question is: HOW ON EARTH DO I START TO LEARN TUNE NAMES?
Ideas:
~Singing the name of the tune to the sound of the tune (works better for some than others)
~Attaching the list of tracks in my car for my "Tunes to Learn" cds (only difficulty is the recordings that I don't have a cd listing to go by)
~Reading the name of the tune as I'm playing it (multiple times)
~Picturing the story of the title with the sound of the tune
